How do I enter my 1099r from NYS Teachers Retirement System? The 1099 does not stae the NY distribution or payer number. Turbotax insists that it is a federal pension.
To find the Payer ID for the NYS Teachers Retirement System you should call them at: (800) 348-7298 or go to their website: https://www.nystrs.org/
To enter the information so that TurboTax realizes the distribution is from the NYS Teachers Retirement System please follow these steps:
- On the 1099-R entry screen, enter NY in the State box (box 13) at the bottom of the 1099R (even if it's not entered on the form).
- On the screen, Select Your State, make sure NY is marked.
- On the next screen, Where Is This Distribution From? mark the appropriate button (NY State and City Education?)
- Enter the amounts for the distribution, withholding, and NY State ID number and click Continue.
- Continue through the screens, entering the requested information.
