If your TurboTax Home and Business desktop version is updated, the issue should already be fixed. Currently the only issue is with the Online program. You may need to manually update your program. Please see this link for instructions.
This bug is now fixed in the online version of TurboTax.
Thanks for the message the the problem for data entry for NQ inherited annuity distributions has now ne fixed for all versions of TT.
Seems to be an issue when the annuity company also checks that the Taxable Amount is not determined and there is no amount in the "Taxable Box"....
Same. April 8. What to do?
Keep reading the whole series of responses, starting from the most recent. I believe they have fixed this problem in both the desktop and online versions of TurboTax at this point.
I believe the updates have corrected this. Make sure you've downloaded/received all of the updates, then delete the 1099R info you've already entered, then enter it again. Should work!
It's not employer related
It is an inherited annuity. Code D is entered on the 1099-R form on Tt. It still does not allow one to enter that it is not a qualified plan.TT needs a third option. Earlier reply said it was fixed and we should update TT. I looked for update on program. It said my TT is up to date. Same problem.
Yes, everything on a 1099-R is considered 'retirement income'. When entering your annuity distribution, if you have Codes 4 and D in Box 7, enter 4 on the first line, and D on the second line. Choose 'other qualified plan'. TurboTax asks if it's 'inherited'. It's all taxed the same anyway, unless there's a different amount in Box 2a.
If asked about RMD, enter an amount equal to or less than the distribution amount, unless you know the amount. Neither the IRS nor TurboTax knows what your RMD should be; they depend on you and your plan administrator to withdraw the correct amount each year.
Here's more info on 1099-R for Pensions, Annuities, Retirement.
