How do I delete Retirement Savings Contribution Credit from my tax return file? I pressed NO to not qualifying for it and it won't delete.

The credit is calculated automatically based on your entries on your Form W2 or retirement contributions entered.  The only way to not calculate the credit would be to indicate that you are not eligible for the credit.  One such way would be to indicate to the program that you are a full-time student.  You can revisit the questions for the Retirement Savings Contribution Credit using the steps below.

To do this -

  • Log into your account and click Take Me to My Return
  • Click the Federal tax tab
  • Go to the Deductions and Credits screen
  • Scroll down until you see the Retirement and Investments Section (you may have to click Show All Tax breaks)
  • Proceed through the interview screens for Retirement Savings Contribution Credit
  • When you get to the screen that asks if you are a full-time student, answer YES if you are not a full-time student, but are making the choice to not claim the credit.  This will remove the form from your return.
