How do I change the holding period on 1099-B - Turbo Tax says to do so, but does not provide instructions to do so

If TurboTax is providing that message to change the holding period, you might want to double-check the information about the transaction. If this was uploaded, there may have been an error. You can delete that entry and type the 1099-B in yourself.

To enter an investment sale from a brokerage account (1099-B), follow the steps below.

• Click on Federal Taxes 
• Click on Wages and Income
• Click on I'll choose what I work on
• Under Investment Income
• On Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other, click the start or update button
• Select Enter a different way and enter the information about the holding period, proceeds and cost basis

The holding period is determined by the Box category you select for Form 8949.

The dates do not matter.
