Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

Hello, I accidentally selected that I contributed to a Traditional IRA. I actually ONLY contributed to a Roth IRA. TurboTax will not delete my accidental response.

TurboTax is now asking me to explain my re-characterization of my Traditional IRA contributions into a Roth IRA. I did not contribute to a traditional IRA nor re-characterize as a Roth IRA. I only contributed directly into a Roth IRA through Northwestern Mutual. There is no option for be to delete my accidental response to the IRA contribution answers and TurboTax says my answer "has been recorded." I'm not sure what to do here.

You can go back in and enter $0 for the amount of your traditional IRA contribution. Then, go back into the IRA contribution section and remove the check mark on the traditional IRA entry you made earlier. On the next screen you can indicate that you want to delete the IRA contribution.

This did not work, do you have any other recommendations?

If you're using TurboTax Online, first clear your Cache and Cookies, then open the program and uncheck the incorrect contribution box.

Or, you could delete the IRA Contributions Worksheet from your return, and go back to that section of the program.

In TurboTax Desktop, go to FORMS and make the change directly on the IRA Contributions Worksheet.

Or, use the Delete Form button at the bottom of the form and go back to that section in the program.
