Hi,
I am an Inherited IRA from my mom. My balance is cute, about $7100.
I have done RMD since 2017, but not in 2024. Oops.
My Financial Services Company didn't warn me about RMD 2024, and I haven't completed it yet. What am I doing now?

You will request the waiver on Form 5329. Form 5329 instructions state:
If you do not have a Form 1099-R to file this can only be done using the "forms" mode which is only available with the TurboTax Desktop software:
If using the TurboTax Online version and have no 2024 Form 1099-R to file, you will have to prepare the 5329 manually.
Download Form 5329 from the IRS website and fill it out the same as above. Print and mail your return with the 5329 form and explanation attached as described in the 5329 instructions.
The 2024 Form 5329 must be attached to your printed and mailed 2024 tax return and cannot be e-filed.
Please be aware that you can only use this method if you are requesting a waiver of the penalty and there is no taxable amount on Form 5329 form line 55 that must be transferred to Schedule 2 line 8.
Please see Relief for Reasonable Cause for additional information.
You're going to file form 5329 with your return requesting a waiver of the penalty. Then you are going to immediately take the 2024 RMD. You also need to take the 2025 RMD this year. Both RMDs will appear on your 2025 tax return.
The late distribution of the RMD should happen first so that you can legitimately indicate in your request for waiver that the RMD has been completed, albeit late.
Is there a place on Form 5329 where you an request a waiver? It seems you are actually paying the tax with that form?

No matter how you obtain the form 5329 YOU CAN'T E FILE in TT WITH THE FORM 5329 INCLUDED!. ITS A BUG ON TT. and the only way to file is by printing and mailing all the forms together to the IRS.
If you are asking for a waiver line 54 and 55 should be zero. You will pay the penalty later if the IRS does not approve the waiver.
