If your return was rejected because your SSN is incorrect and you need to report your IP PIN, you can follow the instructions to fix your return:
- Sign in to TurboTax and select Fix my return.
- On the Let’s fix your return and then refile screen, select Fix it now or Revisit next to the reject code and reason.
- On the next screen, you’ll see a detailed description of the error. Select Continue.
- Select My Info from the menu and go through the information to double-check your SSN
- If anything is incorrect, select Edit and make the correction.
For your IP PIN:
- In the search bar type IP pin (don't forget the space).
- Select the Jump to link in the search results.
- On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes. Select Add and enter your IP PIN in the space provided.
If you lost your CP01A letter (or never received it), you can:
- Retrieve your IP PIN online at the IRS's Get an IP PIN site, or
- Call the IRS at 1-800-908-4490 to have your IP PIN mailed to you (this can take up to 21 days)
Each year, the IRS issues CP01A notices that have a unique 6-digit IP PIN with instructions on how to use it.
