Energy credit on past roof replacement

About 2017 I had my roof replaced. Is it possible to still take the energy credit on that expense even though it is 8 years later? If so, what documentation do I need and which tax year needs to be amended?

No.    Sorry---it is years too late to go back for a credit for something you did in 2017.

And....most home improvements and/or maintenance for your own home are not deductible, with the exceptions of some very specific energy improvements.    You should save your records for someday when you sell the house.
