DOORDASH SIDE HUSTLE

If you worked for DoorDash in multiple states, you may (depending on the states and their tax laws), have to file multiple state tax returns. This process is fairly straightforward in TurboTax.

Every state wants its share of your income, which means you may owe taxes to multiple states depending on your circumstances. Living or working in two or more states doesn't affect your federal tax return. However, you may have to navigate through filing multiple state tax returns.

You would likely have to file a non-resident state tax return in the states that you work in other than Texas, provided they have a state income tax.

Doordash seems fairly simple to work for in multiple states. You would have to update your location in the app or contact support if you plan to dash in a different state or one where you are not listed as living.

The only limitation is that you cannot dash outside of the country where you reside.

You would receive a Form 1099-NEC from DoorDash. You will report this on your Federal Tax return as self-employment income on Form Schedule C. You will be able to deduct your ordinary and necessary business expenses and mileage against your income. If you make over $400, you will have to pay self-employment tax on your income.

You should keep an accurate record of your expenses and mileage so you can complete your taxes and properly report your ordinary and necessary business expenses.
