My wife and I made backdoor Roth contributions in Q1 of 2017 for calendar year 2016. The contributions are non-deductible as we exceed the income limit. I did not amend our 2016 return at that time. I received a 2017 1099-R that includes the contributions for 2016 (made in Q1 of 2017), as well as our 2017 backdoor Roth contributions. I entered all the 1099-R info on my 2017 return.
If I entered all the 2017 1099-R info on my 2017 return, do I need to go back and either amend my 2016 return or complete form 8606 for 2016 as well for contributions made in Q1 of 2017? Or am I all set since I already put it on my 2017 return?
Thanks in advance to those who can help!

Since you made a nondeductible traditional IRA contribution for 2016, your 2016 tax return was required to include Form 8606 to report the nondeductible contribution. You'll need to file the missing 2016 Form 8606. You can prepare the form in 2016 TurboTax by amending your 2016 tax return and entering the traditional IRA contribution.
