Do I have to file Wisconsin state return if only income is non-taxable Social Security?

No, you don't have to file a Wisconsin state income tax return if your only income is Social Security benefits. 

  • Per WI Department of Revenue, if your filing status is single, you're age 65 or older and a full-year resident, you have to file a tax if your gross income is $12,150 or more. Gross income does not include items that are exempt from Wisconsin tax life social security benefits.

No, you don't have to file a Wisconsin state income tax return if your only income is Social Security benefits. 

  • Per WI Department of Revenue, if your filing status is single, you're age 65 or older and a full-year resident, you have to file a tax if your gross income is $12,150 or more. Gross income does not include items that are exempt from Wisconsin tax life social security benefits.
