Turbotax asks if my withdrawal goes to a Roth IRA, but I see no option to say that it went to a TRADITIONAL Ira. How do I enter that?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
The default answer is that your rollover was deposited into a Traditional IRA if none of the other choices apply.
There is not a specific input for the Traditional IRA choice. Pay close attention to the information on the screen and it will tell you this on the last question about the type of account the money was rolled into.
Did Box 7 contain a code G?
IF so, once you say no to the ROTH questions, the software doesn't ask about rolling to a regular IRA, because it already knows.
A "G" in box 7 is a direct transfer to another retirement account, once you ruled out the ROTH selections, then it knows that a traditional account is all that is left...could be an IRA, or a 401k, or a 403b, TSP... (but not sure about whether it is allowed to a 457).....beyond the ROTHs, you don't need to specify as long as it didn't go to any ROTH accounts.

Sorry to insist, but after I enter the info on the 1099R, the first screen is "Rollover to ... Roth" and the second "was this money ... to Roth", so nowhere had I a chance to enter that this was a rollover, and TTax gives the amount as a withdrawal, not a rollover. Thanks for your help.
AnnetteB6 is correct. By answering No to both questions that ask about rollovers to Roth accounts, TurboTax then treats it as a nontaxable rollover to a traditional account without any need to ask additional questions.
