Can a distribution taken from my retirement count taken a few months before I turned 72 be considered the RMD even if not coded that way for the IRS?

I just found out that I should have taken a distribution before April1st of this year.  I did take money out last April, then turned 72 in September 2022

Yes.

If you reach age 72 in 2022, a distribution taken anytime in 2022 can count as your RMD.
