Yes, it is correct and TurboTax will use the Federal amount and transfer it.  Then you need to make sure you answer the questions that follow as some States tax 1099R's different than other depending on what type they are (for example military retirement, public pension, etc).

I received a 2018 1099-R in 2019. This was for a removal of excess contribution to my 2017 Roth IRA. I made a mock 2018 1099-R according to some advice on TurboTax and submitted it on my 2017 return. On this mock 1099 I have listed MO(I live in Missouri) in box 13 and $99 in box 14(I can't remember if I did this on my own or if TT auto-filled this). The $99 is also the taxable income 2a. I have 0.00 in boxes 4 and 12.

On my real 2018 1099-R all of the information matches my mock except that boxes 13 and 14 are blank. Does it matter that I submitted a 1099-R that has an entry in box 14 when it actually should not? Once again, boxes 4 and 12 are blank.

I duplicated my 2017 return on my computer and imported my real 1099 directly and as I move through MO is added to box 13 but 14 remains blank (though there is a section that lists $99 as my Missouri distribution amount). After I input the 1099 TT asks me what state I live in and then asks about the source of my 1099. On the page that asks about the source it lists $99 as the Missouri distribution amount.

Box 14 on my 1099-R is blank but Turbo Tax automatically fills in the information (taxable income) when going through the questions. is this correct?

@thomadon1 - you are tagging onto a year old post.  A blank box 14 is assumed to be the same amount as box 1 if only one state is listed in box 12.

Box 14 is not usually required because it has been an 1099-R industrial standard for many years that if there is only one state in box 12 & 13 then the box 1 amount does not need to be allocated between two states - the entire box 1 amount is understood to be the state distribution so box 14 is just left blank.

But recently, there are at least two states that will reject 1099-R's with a state tax and a blank box 14 so it is okay to enter the box 1 amount into box 14 to satisfy the states requirement.

Yes I am aware it is old. I posted a new question, but I didn't know how well people would see this vs. that. Thanks for getting back to me.

I live in Missouri and made all of my income in Kansas. The box 2a value is $99 and that is what is in box 14. Box 1 value is 1949.

Box 14 on my 1099-R is blank but Turbo Tax automatically fills in the information (taxable income) when going through the questions. is this correct?

There was a "select my state" page following my 1099 entry which asked where I live - I chose Missouri. The next page asks for the source of this income. I chose private pension. Then is a space below that there is a blank entry for "missouri distribution amount". This is where $99 is entered. I cannot recall if I did that or TT auto-filled it. Thus it is on box 14....I believe.

You posted a comment to a year old question  that almost nobody will see.

Just leave box 14 blank if it is blank on your 1099-R or if TurboTax want s a box 14 value enter the 1099-R box 1 amount.

Box 14 on my 1099-R is blank but Turbo Tax automatically fills in the information (taxable income) when going through the questions. is this correct?

So the issue is that I already submitted the 1099-R with an entry in box 14.

No issue then. Box 14 has no effect on the tax return  taxable amount whatsoever.   If it accepted then you are done.

Awesome. Thanks. This was for my 2017 return and federal/states were all accepted.

To confirm, though, it is no issue that I submitted a 1099 with an entry in box 14 even though I was supposed to leave that entry blank?

Box 14 on my 1099-R is blank but Turbo Tax automatically fills in the information (taxable income) when going through the questions. is this correct?

It is also no issue that said entry in box 14 matched what was in box 2a? This was all on a mock 2018 1099-R submitted on my 2017 return.

No issue.  Only the State cares about anything in boxes 12-14 and the state only cares about the box 12 amount that is applies to your state tax return.

No- as long as box 14 was as at least as much as box 12 the state will be happy.
