8453 what to print and send in

TT said to print 8453 and send it in manually, but it did not print off anything else or tell me to include anything else in the mailing. The form has the 8949 box checked. But TT already filed 8949 electronically so do I send it in manually as well with the 8453 and if so why didn't TT print that form off with the 8453 that it said I had to print off?

TurboTax Desktop will allow you to enter a summary information instead of each individual transaction on an IRS form 1099-B.

In such a case, the IRS requires that the original IRS form 1099-B (from which you entered the summary information) be mailed to them attached to an IRS form 8453.

So why doesn’t turbo tax say that? It would be nice to have more directions about was needed to be sent in with the form it said had to be printed and sent in.  Also it would have been nice to know that before filling.  If I knew that, I could have entered all of the information individually so I wouldn’t have to send anything in. The 1099b is very long. Do I have to print the entire thing and send it? It may need additional postage.

Yes, you will have to print out the original IRS form 1099-B and mail it to the IRS.

What is the Box Category you are reporting? see exception below.

If you are not excused by the detail reporting exception,
IRS requires details of your SELL transactions to be supplied on some Form 8949,
or on your other forms (e.g. consolidated 1099-B or spreadsheet) which have the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.

This is so, even when the broker has sent details to the IRS already.

Regarding stock and options, for Box A and Box D, only wash sales have to be itemized on Form 8949.

The exception does not include wash sales, since they have an adjustment.
-----
Detail Reporting Exception: if you summarize Category A or Category D, Form 8949 is not needed for transactions without adjustments. No mailing is necessary. No attachment is necessary.
