Has anyone provided an answer to the problem of Turbo Tax not letting you leave Box 16 empty??? I see everyone having the same problem of box 16 being blank on the 1099R but Turbo Tax will not allow it to be blank. WHAT IS THE PROPER ANSWER??? We can't just accept GUESSES!

Enter the amount reported in box 1 of your Form 1099-R for the state distribution amount box 16. This will clear the error condition.
I actually spoke with TT on 14 Feb, and they indicated they would escalate this problem for a fix. Sadly, less than three hours later I received an email from them saying that they already Closed the Case, but literally nothing else, no solution offered, no date to expect a corrective update, no offer to refund my money, etc., making me think nothing was even addressed to remedy the problem. I am not confident in the 2024 TT anymore, which is really remarkable considering how many years I have relied on TT and recommended it to others.
Helpers here in TT Community suggest forcing a bypass of the TT problem by populating box 16 using a box 1or 2a figure, but I strongly believe that TT should fix this so Users such as myself and others don’t have to fudge the numbers with our best guess. This whole problem has been frustrating, but the TT response has been truly disheartening. I may check out boards at HR Block and such and see if there are any parallels there, and if not, I may just switch to them.
