Loan repayment by the NIH is not always taxable income, but I or someone else will have to research the situation. Can you tell us more about your situation? (For example, doctor in an underserved area, etc.). What is the name of the program?
It is merely that TurboTax (TT) doesn't have the 1099-g form with a box 6 option to allow entry of this 1099-g taxable grant (it is not unemployment, Box 1)...done it now many yrs in a row, should have pre-populated with NIH address, etc.

On the Income page, there are two separate places to enter 1099-G forms, one for unemployment and one for everything else. It does contain taxable grant and box 6. Are you in the right place? You may need to click on something like "show me everything", "show me more choices" or "let me choose what to work on."
Thanks! Found the right place and entered it as a taxable grant (but searching 'go to 1099-g' shouldn't be a deadend-as it is, and backdoor Roth should be just a straight up option, not cribbing off blogs -- way too hard to be paying money for TT software).
