Hello Everybody,
I hope everybody is staying safe and keeping well during this quarantine but I have a question I was hoping someone can help me I wanted to help my boyfriend who is on SSI to receive his stimulus check faster, so I put his information in through the non-filer portal through IRS. He doesn't have a bank account I used my prepaid American express serve card for his banking information and I submitted it well fast forward a couple of days later I was looking at my card information and something just told me to read the policies to make sure and I never read the polices since I had the card. I found out I couldn't do it and found out I couldn't so the day before he received a NetSpend prepaid card in the mail so I opened it and quickly went to the IRS portal and updated his banking information. Yesterday we were checking to see if his status updated yet and it stated he will receive it on the 29th so I get an email today saying the bank rejected it, So I'm trying to figure out will it go to his Prepaid card or will it be mailed?
PS. I feel so bad because I tried to help and I **bleep**ed up excuse my language

Once a direct deposit has been attempted and rejected once, a check will be issued. The IRS doesn't attempt to direct deposit a 2nd time. The check should arrive within 2-3 weeks of the payment "bouncing".

The IRS usually mails the payment within 10 days after it is rejected.

So he was supposed to receive the deposit on the29th but my bank rejected it before the 29th. So should I just wait until after the 29th and check on the IRS portal for an update? Are you sure it will come in one or two weeks ( not saying you lying or anything) I just want to make sure because I don't want to get his hopes up high
The individuals who had a payment sent that was scheduled for April 15th have been receiving their checks for the past week. The IRS timeline appears to be about 2 weeks from the time that it's rejected, to the time a check is sent. Obviously it's impossible to "guarantee" anything, but that should be a good guideline. Good luck!
So should I check for an update on the IRS portal after the 29th? I'm just trying to make sure he will receive his check even though the bank rejected it. Thank you for responding back
Assuming the IRS has his correct address on file, yes, he'll receive his check. The "Get My Payment" tool will change to reflect when the check is scheduled to be sent, although most people actually receive their check before that date. The tool is only updated once per day, so no point in checking more often that that.
So will it be sent to the address that's on his non-filers tax return? And so should id check back after the 29th? Because the bank keeps sending me an e-mail stating that they couldn't' deposit accept my deposit and it tells me to contact the institution that issued the check but its no way to contact the IRS. So does it automatically get sent back to the IRS when the bank rejects the check?
This is the message I received from the bank but I can't call the IRS or American express due to the coronavirus and no staff so I'm trying to figure out does it automatically gets sent back to the IRS when the bank rejects it?
Unfortunately, we were unable to accept the Direct Deposit.

Yes, the rejected deposit is sent back to the IRS. The IRS then will mail the payment as a check to the address on your tax return.
How long after the bank rejects it how long will it take for the IRS to mail the checkout?

Thank you so much and he was supposed to receive the check on the 29th but the bank rejected so should I check back after the 29th on the IRS portal?

I would assume that the IRS portal would have the mailed date sometime after it was rejected, but not absolutely sure if that would be so.
So I'm just trying to make sure he will receive his check after it been rejected, how long after it's rejected will it be mailed out?
