I am active duty military, California resident. My wife and I, work and own home in Hawaii, do we need to complete California, and Hawaii state taxes?

It depends. Generally, you only need to file California since that is your state of legal residence/ home of record unless you have a second job next to your military career.

 

Your spouse has the choice to use California or Hawaii, if she chooses to keep California for tax purposes then all income earned in Hawaii will be taxable in California. If your spouse had Hawaii state taxes withheld you would need to file a Hawaii tax return to get a refund.
