Filing taxes as a military person domiciled in california but stationed in Georgia PCS. question.

Georgia took out state taxes from my military pay. To get the refund from state taxes, I will have to file Georgia state taxes as a non resident correct? Also, to follow up, I have filed california taxes as non-resident as that is what I heard I have to do. As far as interest, dividends and capital gains, is that taxable in georgia where i stayed or in california where I am domiciled? Thank you for all help.

Yes, you will have to file a Georgia nonresident tax return and report zero income to get your withholding refunded.  If you have not already done so, contact DFAS t correct your withholding to show the correct Home of Record.  You would be required to file as California nonresident if you have California source income- which includes your interest, dividend and Capital Gains.  The  interest, Dividends and capital gains would not be taxable to Georgia.  See Military | FTB.ca.gov.
