Where do I enter my office rent?

Office rent is a business expense deducted on Schedule C as 'Rental Expense'.   Under Business Expenses, you will see the following:

Business Expenses (Everyday expenses conducting business)

  • Business Vehicle Expense
  • Other Common Business Expense - click here and enter rent under ''Rental Expenses'' if this is an office outside of your home.
  • Home Office Expense - enter the expense here if the office is part of your home.

If the rent is for your home office related to W-2 income, it is entered as an employee expense as an itemized deduction on Schedule A; this would be under 'job/W-2/employee business expense' under the  'Deductions & Credits' section of TurboTax.  This is no longer a deductible expense for 2018.   This portion only applies to 2017 and prior years.
