Years ago, I had a more complex tax return that included multiple income sources, a 1099-DIV, and a business that complicated my tax situation. I no longer have the business or received a 1099-div. I received 1 W2 from my job, I do own a home but plan to take the standard deduction. I should be able to file with the 1040EZ.
Ever since filing those more complex situations, TurboTax now is not giving me the option to use the File for free service. I am getting the $99+State option. However, when I filed my girlfriends she is able to get the free service. Why am I now pigeon holed to buying your product? I am now looking elsewhere for cheaper alternatives because I have a very straight forward tax situation now. Can someone explain why I can no longer use the File for Free option?

First, the 1040-EZ no longer exists at least for now and several years. Form 1040 will be used and filed for every situation. You can downgrade possibly to the free service or you can open a new account to start fresh.
When you open your current return, be sure to select Income or another category to add or change something in your return. You don't have to change anything.
Once you do you will see the following portion of the menu on the left, towards the bottom.
