SURVEY EXPENSE FOR A RENTAL PROPERTY - can I depreciate it? purchased property for rental use in 2014.

If the survey was done while the property was an active rental (rented or available for rent) then it can be deducted as a rental expense.  If was done as a part of the purchase of the property then it would be added to the cost basis and depreciated along the rental.  If the survey is being done in connection with the sale of the property then it is a sales cost and will reduce proceeds when sold.
