SSI income & investments/interest forms

  • Hello, my only source of monthly income is SSI & I’m currently unemployed; would I need to file my 1099 interest forms & 1099b? I didn’t sell much stock & only made a spare grand or so from interest from multiple banks last year. I’ve filled two years in a row all of my bank bonuses & stock gains/losses, but it looks like I didn’t even need to file in the first place.

Do you get ssi or Social Security?  They are different things.  A lot of times people say ssi when they mean Social Security Income. But it's not. SSI actually stands for Supplemental Security Income not Social Security. You do not get a SSA-1099 for SSI. You do not report SSI at all.

  • Yes, it’s actually SSI. Not social security income. I’m aware that i don’t have to file because of SSI. I’m only wondering if I’d have to file a tax return for the tax forms I get from my banks & brokerages. It varies from 1099 INT to 1099B from stock trades. These financial gains don’t surpass $2k if I remember correctly.
