Should "marketing fees" for a short-term rental charged by a management company be put on line 5 or line 11 of schedule e?

We have a short-term rental property. Our management company charges us, "marketing fees" and a "housing commissions for period" fee. On schedule e, we have been putting marketing fees on line 5 Advertising, and housing commissions on line 8 Commissions. Is that correct or should one or both of them be included in 11 Management Fees?

It should not matter which category includes the fees charged by the management company as long as you make notes for your own records to show where things are claimed and they are only claimed once.

Certain categories of rental expenses are prorated according to personal versus business use, but the ones you mentioned would all be related to business use and should be fine being claimed in any of those categories.
