Section 199A dividends

Section 199A dividends are dividends from domestic real estate investment trusts (“REITs”) and mutual funds that own domestic REITs.

Those Dividends are reported in box 5 of your Form 1099-DIV.

To report form 1099-DIV:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Select Federal from the left menu.
  3. Go to Wages and Income then Income and Expenses.
  4. Scroll down to Interest and Dividends.
  5. Select Start next to Dividends on 1099-DIV
  6. Answer Yes to Did you receive any dividend income?
  7. Choose your bank or brokerage from the list to import your 1099-DIV and select Continue or manually enter your 1099-DIV  by selecting I'll type it in myself.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your 1099-DIV.
  9. Check the box that says "My form has info in more than just these boxes." Then enter the amount in box 5.
