The workaround for this experience is to remove/delete the amount from the QBI column on the Carryovers to 2024 Smart Worksheet that appears with the Smart Check message. This edit will allow the worksheet to pass final review so you can file your federal return.
If you have QBI carryovers under Disallowed Passive Losses by Year and Type, you'll need to review this information on your prior year return to see if the passive loss carryover was freed up. Look for the Schedule E Worksheet for this property (a TurboTax worksheet, not an IRS form). Check the section "Activity Summary Smart Worksheet" Line H, which will tell you the actual passive disallowed loss that should have been carried over to your current return.
In some cases, the QBI carryover freed up last year was transferred to this worksheet in error. Deleting these entries will reset the QBI carryovers for this property.
