Yeah, looks like the same problem. That's a great catch. I have the error across all of my properties as well. I would really love for TT to solve this!
Having the same problem here. Has anyone figured out how to fix this on the online version, or what number to enter. I'm still not clear which entry in the Schedule E worksheet this request is asking to be filled in.
I entered 0 after TT indicated "Maximum value is 0". I did not attempt to enter a negative number since the losses on form 8582 are expressed as positive values, perhaps I should have.
What is the answer TT wants me to put in this spot so I can actually submit my taxes? I have used this for 6 years with no problem and now there is this problem. Please tell me what to put in the Passive Operating Loss section for a rental property, or where I find the number that it wants, as I have tried several with no luck.
Where can the “loss allocation entries “ you mentioned be found?
Thanks!
I have same issue. below is my token, and I am also filing CA/MA/NH state tax
Token Number: 659473475-56774056
Thank You!
When you run Smart Check, TurboTax will present a section of Schedule E Worksheet Carryovers to 2024 Smart Worksheet, Disallowed Passive Losses by Year and Type. You'll see the carryovers are out of sequence. In some cases, 2022 is on the 2021 line. Or the 2023 number is on the 2022 line.
To fix this, enter the correct number starting with the most recent year, Then move up the schedule until all years are correct. This may be easier if you can access your 2023 return and print the Schedule E worksheet.
If instead you see several types of carryovers under Passive Loss Carryovers, scroll down until you find the continuation schedule and can see the amount that should have carried over to 2023, then enter that amount for Line G Regular Tax of the summary schedule.
If you're unable to scroll down in the popup window to see these lines, you will need to transfer your return to TurboTax for Desktop so you can use Forms Mode to fix this carryover. See How do I switch from TurboTax Online to the TurboTax software? Also, contact TurboTax Support and request a free download due to the online program restrictions.
Thank you for the tokens. We still need a pair from 2023 and 2024.
Thank you for taking to the time work on this issue. Just to clarify in my situation.
For me the 2023 Form 8582 Part VIIl line C Unallowed loss number is correctly imported and on the current Carryovers to 2024 Smart Worksheet line G and on the Activity Summary Smart Worksheet Line G Regular Tax. All three of these lines have the same number.
Can I use that number as a negative number in the Disallowed Passive Losses by Year and Type 2023, Operating Loss, Regular tax box that you have pictured? In other words, I can simply enter that number in as a negative when TT prompts for the Passive Operating Loss?
Thank you!
Yes, if you have identified the correct number for the prior year carryover, enter that amount in the empty box.
hi @PatriciaV so should we do this? Or if we wait some weeks will TT implement a fix? Thx!
The workaround posted previously is the only option at this time.
If you are willing to provide tokens for both your 2023 and 2024 returns (per previously posted instructions), that would greatly assist with further investigation into this experience.
Here is my token PLEASE Advise us how to send 2023 tax token. I'm using the 2024 desktop version and uninstalled 2023 TT. Can't figure out how to send it to you without reinstalling the 2023 program (which I can not find)
I contacted support as indicated in the post above. The automated attendant would not allow me to speak to a person, and wanted me to purchase Live Assisted ($199) in order to speak to someone about the free download you reference. How do I resolve this issue?
I have done every possible to submit my 2023 tax form for you to investigate..(I've already submitted my 2024 token)
I've reinstalled my 2023 Premier TT on my desktop and when I attempt to access my tax file ..TT insists on me paying for the 2023 state download for $45! It will NOT allow me to continue. So what can I do??
How can I submit my 2023 token tax file.
I’m having exactly same issue here in NY. And if I go to the “Forms” Schedule E worksheet it appears to me that previous year showed 2022 (but NOT 2023), then 2021, 2020… last year 2023 is missing.
What is the solution ? Waiting for a fix.
Thanks, Mario
