You can re-enter your improvement the way that you initially did in the depreciation section. Include the original date that you entered last year. The program will recognize that one year's worth of depreciation has already been taken.

Yep, that's what I eventually figured out after changing settings a couple times. I did notice it had it in a different Now I also had to figure out how to get the house back in there as an asset too. I did it almost the same way, and it appears to be correct, but it is more than last year and I can't see the actual tax form to see if it's showing in the form where it was in the past!! I did check earlier years, and the amount did change then too, but not this much.

Rental real estate, except for partial first and second years, is depreciated at 3.636% per year on the basis originally entered.

Any reason why it would have been a different amount in 2017, 2018, and 2019?? I used the original purchase date and price then added the date we moved out and it became a rental. I don’t have exact but know the month and year. I have used TurboTax for more than 10 years and it has always transferred it, but for some reason it made me start all over this year even though I imported the pdf. Thx!!

Be sure you are entering the purchase date and then the date placed in service and that you have selected Residential Rental Property (see image below).

The depreciation may vary by a few dollars because in certain years the percentage changes ever so slightly from the 3.636%.  There is an article that will help you as well due to the transfer of assets and your experience. This provides specific guidance for you about how to make sure all of the assets are entered correctly.

All of my old TurboTax documents are gone. There is nothing there..it keeps asking me to upload. I do have the PDF of the 2019 return, but it does not have that page, only the tax form that was submitted, so I don't have any of the original values. I pulled my old 2005 report and it has a different value and I'm not sure where it came from. So this is really frustrating..what happened to all my old documents?? I'm logging in the same as I always have!!

I think I figured it out. Apparently I have 2 separate logins, one with my login (sdfd57) and one with my email..that is why this thread has 2 different accounts from me on it. I just logged in without the email, and I think everything came back..WHEW. I'll start clean with this one and hopefully it all transfers like it's supposed to. Thanks for the link for fixing it if I need to with the account!!
