My tenant left in October and I had to pay October's rent and 1/2 November myself which is a loss. where do I put that. I am paying the government now???

As a landlord you do not pay rent. You will have expenses like mortgage, heat, electric etc. You would deduct these items as expenses to the property. This will generate the appropriate profit or loss.
