I'm trying to determine how to file proceeds from my employer that was acquired last year. It's a private company so there's no stock or anything. All the employees were granted MIUs for a small share of the equity. All of the advice outside of TurboTax says to select "Other" investment type, but that's not an option in the latest interface that I'm seeing.
Then there are pieces that are totally missing, for example it's a non-covered security (box 5) and yet that is also not something you're able to fill out on the 1099-B page. Oh yeah, and on top of that, I did get a K-1 in the previous tax year when the sale happened, but as some special condition of the transaction, the bank that managed the sale retained a small portion for 12 months. This tiny portion is what I got this year, and did not come along with a K1, just this extremely vague 1099B.
Anyone encounter something like this? Is there another part of the service I should be looking in? Because I have a 1099B I'm only getting information about that (usually public stocks or other investments).
