How many shares of stock when you only have 1099-Div. I have amount and know the dividend paid-can I figure out # of shares from that?

I have a DIV form from 2001 but need to figure out how  many shares.  Ordinary dividends were 1400 for that year and dividend paid was .16 but dividends are paid 4 x a year.  My brain just isn't working - is there a way to find out how many shares of stock this 1400 represents?  thanks to so many who are much smarter than me!

The math won’t be exact (unless the assumption that the dividend paid was equal all year and you owned the stock all year turns out to be correct), but it should be close if you assume that you owned the stock all year and received four dividend payments.

That would mean that there was (0.16 x 4) = $0.64 per share paid in dividends for the year.

Take $1400.00 / $0.64 = 2187.5 shares owned.

Thanks so much!!! I also did a convoluted formula of taking the 1400 dividing by 4 (4 payments) and then dividing that by the 0.16.  Your way is so much easier and faster!!! I don't need to be exact, I just needed a ballpark of how many shares I had.  Your help is very much appreciated!!!!!
