Have lived in TX for entire year of 2016, but sold our home in KY in Jan. of 2016 for only 129K. Do I have to filefor the state of KY since it falls well below the $500K level?

No, you will not need to file for KY. If you are able to exclude the sale of home because of the exclusion, you will not need to claim this on a KY return either (and you clearly have no other KY income to report).
