Form 990-T

I have an investment inside a Roth IRA (actually an inherited Roth IRA, if that makes any difference) that generated a form 990-T (and related schedule A, D, E, and form 4797).  I've never seen these forms before and I don't know what I should do with them.  I tried typing "turbotax form 990" and all I got back was "form 990 is not supported ... here's a link to the IRS website".  I'm not trying to fill out a form 990 (at least I don't think that I am), but if and how I should be using that information.  Is this just informational and I can ignore it?

Form 990-T

A Roth IRA must file Form 990-T if it has gross unrelated business taxable income (UBTI) exceeding $1,000 in a given year. This threshold applies per IRA, not per investment.

  • UBIT must be paid by the IRA from its own assets, not from the IRA owner's personal funds.
  • The IRA custodian is generally responsible for filing Form 990-T and paying the tax.
