Hello All-
I opened a tax loss harvesting account with Fidelity in 2021, but for a variety of reasons, did not fully understand the annual tax reporting requirements. I never reported the amounts below on Form 8949 and/or Schedule D, Part I (short term) or Part II (long term). In order to avail myself of the tax benefits, I assume I will have to refile my taxes for 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024? Or can I wait and report all in 2025? How do I report that $9.75 in 2024?
2021 Total Short-Term Loss $(4,685.83)
2022 Total Short-Term Loss $(13,288.06)
2022 Total Long-Term Loss $(585.85)
2022 Total Combined Loss $(13,873.91)
2023 Total Short-Term Loss $(2,594.00)
2023 Total Long-Term Loss $358.69
2023 Total Combined Loss $(2,235.31)
2024 Total Short-Term Loss $(778.15)
2024 Short-term transactions for which basis is not reported to the IRS $9.75**
2024 Total Long-Term Loss $1,159.69
2024 Total Combined Gain $391.29

You have to report the losses in the year they occurred. Amend your returns starting with 2021.
OKAY! I BELIEVE I CAN GO BACK THREE YEARS SO I STILL HAVE TIME TO AMEND 2021?
You can amend 2021 to correct errors but will not get additional refund.
