I keep getting a login failure when attempting to auto import my Charles Schwab 1099.
1) I have third party enabled in my Charles Schwab account - worked fine all previous years.
2) I verified that my 1099 composite is available at Charles Schwab.
3) I can use my login credentials to successfully log into my Charles Schwab account from Firefox.
4) In turbotax I select Charles Schwab to begin the import.
4a) I successfully log into my Intuit account.
4b) I get prompted to enter my Charles Schwab account login credentials which I enter from my KeePass
Each time I attempt this I get a login failure message from turbotax and recommend contacting customer support - is this turbotax support or Charles Schwab support as it does not clarify same.
Are others having issues with their Charles Schwab imports and does anyone know how to get this to work?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
After posting this I called turbotax support and they indicated they were aware of the issue and working on fix with no completion date / time given.
So I decided to enter my 1099-Div and 1099-B Summary into in manually. After doing this I decided to try the auto import again - this time I was able to log into Charles Schwab and download the 1099 composite into turbotax.
Yes, I'm having the same issue. I've done the same steps that you have done and I've manually entered my Schwab login credentials successfully to connect to schwab.com from Chrome but those same credentials do not work from within TurboTax.
ditto - similar steps - same problem

I have tried clearing cache and cookies but to no avail - problem persists

same, it is sucks lol
terrible
you are genius .. I pass it too
same problem. called schwab and they are aware of the problem, but that's not the same as fixing it
I am also having this problem. In previous years it worked well. I use Turbo Tax because of its import capability. The 2021 version is unacceptable.
in addition to what costurbousr first stated above
I am on a MAC
I also ensured Safari was NOT my default browser (set Chrome as my default)
I purged cache and cookies for Safari and Chrome
I reset my Intuit password (I think this may have finally did it but still uncertain)
stoped my browser running in the background
Eventually it started to work - did the above help ? Maybe. was one of the above the key to resolving the issue or did the gods finally said OK we will let it work for you. I think it was the later.
Had same problem. I use Google Chrome browser. Went to three dots at top right of browser and clicked on Settings, then Security and Privacy, then Cookies and other site data, then See all site data and permissions. Various sites will show. Delete cookies for Intuit and Charles Schwab.
I figured the above out after wasting three hours with Intuit chat who ultimately forwarded me to Just Answer to solve the problem, who in turn referred me back to Intuit. Had to work through customer service to get back fee that was charged - another 30 minutes. Never had this problem and been using TurboTax for years. Frustrating, but hope this helps others.
I'm having the same problem...all weekend, March 4,5 and 6, 2021. Try to download by log in to Intuit fine, enter login for Schwab account fine and within 10 seconds of entering, get the reply "! Login is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later or call customer support." I have tried probably a dozen times each on Fri, Sat and Sunday with the same results. I also changed my password with Schwab and verified no TTax updates are needed in my CD copy of TTax 2021. Obviously the issue is still with us. I'm on a Windows 11 PC and have used TTax Premier and the download of 1099's for some 11 years now...and this is the first time I've had such a problem. Hope Intuit works this bug out ASAP!
Regarding importing from Charles Schwab, please see the Help Article here for further assistance with your 1099.
If this still isn't working for you, please try to utilize the workaround posted on this thread here. Some users have also had success completing the upload earlier in the morning or later in the evening.
**Schwab login now works!**
(Am using the CD/Download version of Home and Business)
Had been getting a login failure for days.
Spoke to Schwab and they said that this was a known problem
and that the expected fix date had passed weeks ago.
Thus I was advised not to wait for a fix but to enter everything manually
which we did.
**Today I gave the login one more try and it worked like a charm.**
I did the import and then deleted the duplicate entries.
All looks great!
I have Nonqualified stock options that I exercised (sell and hold) or "sell to cover the cost of acquiring shares to hold. Here's my predicament. If i attempt to do a schwab 1099 B automatic sync with TurboTax it does not take into consideration the "adjusted cost basis" since Non qualified stock is characterized as "ordinary income" the 1099 B doesn't take into consideration that there were already tax withholdings which are in my W2. I journal entried all my Short Term Transactions which basis is reported to the IRS (form 8949). I checked the box in turbo tax that the cost basis was incorrect since it didn't include "adjusted cost basis". When I put the adjusted cost basis which I get from Schwab's Total Equity Activity Statement, which includes award date, award price, sale price and most importantly the adjust cost basis.
Here's my question. After I input the adjusted cost basis it makes my situation with a pretty sizable capital loss? This is where I am confused. I know you can only write off $3k/year on a capital loss but my biggest question is why its showing a capital loss.
@oregonduckjohn Your "sell and hold" shares should be pretty close to zero on the return since you exercised them in 2021. You are paying taxes on the actual gain for those trades as regular income on your W2.
The other trades and sales that you had for the year appear to have produced a loss that is greater than $3000. You will take $3000 of that loss this year and roll the rest forward into next year.
