You can’t deduct repairs on your home but you can deduct the cost of repairs on property you rent as a landlord.
Repairs on your primary residence, 2nd home, vacation home or any other "personal use" property just is not deductible on your tax return.
Repairs to rental property are deductible as a rental expense on the SCH E. There's even a spot in the rental expenses section of the program for repair expenses. What you enter there ends up on line 14 of the SCH E.
Your rental repair expenses are only deductible if the expense was incurred while the property was classified as a rental. Any repair expenses incurred in preparing the property for rent for the very first time are not deductible at all. (Do not confuse this with property improvement costs.)
