What? Who owns the home? Do you own the home? Are you just letting someone live there without paying any rent? If you own the home and you are on the mortgage you can enter your mortgage interest and property tax paid in 2021. You cannot treat the home like a rental property and deduct any rental expenses if you are not being paid any rent.
No, mortgage payments are not deductible. Mortgage interest is deductible if you own the home and are itemizing your deductions when it is not a rental property.
If this is a rental property, rental expenses, which would include mortgage interest, would be deductible only up to the amount of rent that is received when the property is rented for less than fair market value. Since your relative is not paying rent, you have no rental income, therefore, you would not be able to claim any rental expenses.
