Missing 2021 Form 1116

I am using TurboTax 2021 Home & Business Desktop version for Mac.

Last week when I tried to complete Foreign Tax Credit Form 1116 I received an error message that the IRS had not yet completed the form and I should check back later.

Today I updated to Formset 2021.11607. Using EasyStep it now allows me to enter preliminary Foreign Tax Credit information to the point of selecting between a credit or deduction. When I choose the deduction option the EasyStep process stops, it defaults to the credit option, and will not complete Form 1116. I do not get an error message, just the warning “Do Not File” on the blank Form 1116.

Is this a known bug with this update?

Is TurboTax still waiting for the IRS to make Form 1116 available?

Form 1116, Foreign Tax Credit is estimated to be finalized on 03/03/2022

Spoke to an agent today and I was told it will be available on TurboTax on 2/25, but the date on this link https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_fed_online_individual.html is moved to 3/3. The agent got a reply from her supervisor that IRS form is not available, but told the agent that the form is very much available at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1116.pdf. The agent continued to maintain that they are not misrepresenting, may be some backend technical integration/data from IRS may be pending. Nevertheless, it doesn't give confidence that we will be able to file on 3/3 as the date has been moving from 2/17 to 3/3.

Is there a way to opt out of a particular thread other than just deleting the emails as they come in?

I'm one of the "lucky" ones with not much foreign tax that can be handled with solutions already provided. I feel bad for all the people who need to wait for the form, but I can't contribute and am not getting any useful information out of this.

Seems like you click on your image in the upper right corner to go to My Settings, the My Subscriptions/Email Subscription Options/Delete Selected Subscriptions: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/user/myprofilepage/tab/user-subscriptions

(the "select" box for the subscription is a little difficult to see but it's at the left edge of the screen in my browsesr)

Now it says 3/03/2022. This is all TT's fault. Unbelievable. And they send emails saying "Last Chance to Save!" if you file by 2/28. How I hate them (unfortunately not more than doing it manually) !

Form 1116 is available for weeks now on IRS website

Still not available in TT as of 2/21/22 and now the link showing TT form availability is pushed back to 3/3. I'm glad I found this thread because the "error" the program gives is the IRS has not released the final version but when I looked at the IRS website it looked like it was done for a while and found no indication it was not final which was confusing me. TT needs to have a better message in a case like this as to what is going on!

Where are you seeing on an IRS site that Form 1116 isn't available? I know TurboTax blames it on the IRS, but it is TurboTax that is slow to get it done, and inaccurate with their estimates of when it will be available.

When it did the final review, it opened a form 1116 to fill in some info along with other info to review. I entered it but as I mentioned before it ended up doubling the foreign tax amount since it already had the info from my 1099-DIV. In order to delete it I clicked on the top "Forms" and it gave me a list of all the forms and worksheets to open. I'll just wait until TT releases the the version on 3/3.

I now looks like TT has delayed the Form 1116 to 3-3-22.

So much for trying to file taxes early and avoid the later crush at the IRS!

Come on, TT, get your act together!

For the cost, I am doubting TT is worth it.

Turbo tax keeps saying waiting for form 1116. I don't need to file that form. I don't have any foreign income. How do I bypass this?

You can check on your dividend information where there may be foreign tax paid.

If you do not have any foreign tax paid then you can delete form 1116.

You can also delete the form 1116 in TTO

Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
Select Delete next to the form 1116 and delete the form

In the TTDesktop

Open your tax return
Switch to forms mode
Delete the Form 1116

Now TurboTax is showing thru a separate link March 3rd for availability....not sure I believe that either.....already a month after IRS had the form available. May need to switch to another program for doing my taxes.

Agreed, Turbo Tax is not the clear choice if they can't have the forms ready in time to file. I have always filed as early as possible to avoid processing delays on the IRS side.
