I'm getting the failed validation error last night trying to e-file both federal and state.  It asked me to get an update but the program showed all the latest update are done.

Here are several troubleshooting steps that you can try:

Filing form 1065 electronically (Federal & NJ 1065).  Same problem here.  I uninstalled, reinstalled etc.  I also installed (from scratch) to a different computer that had no Intuit product on it whatsoever.  Same result: "FAILED VALIDATION Error Code 54".  This morning, I tried again, same error message.  I then electronically filed the Federal 1065 by itself and it went through.  I waited until I received confirmation from IRS that the federal 1065 was accepted and filed NJ-1065.  Result:  same error message.  Based on other postings on this subject, it seems that the problem is being caused by something in the State return portion of the software.  Maybe Intuit can check the software code for the State products to finally fix this issue in advance of the tax return filing deadline.

I am using Turbotax Business for LLCs in California.  I was able to get beyond the Failed Validation Error #54 by turning off Norton Virus Protection.  Launching Turbotax again.   It then found an update, which once processed, allowed the electronic filing to go through.   I hope this is helpful to someone.

Believe me, you're not alone. I'm in CA and trying to submit both Fed and State, indeed I have a same issue. Here are what I did

    • Install Turbotax 2024 to MacOS 13 and above
    • log in as Turbotax account
    • Transmit tax return both Fed and CA State
    • And successfully went through
    • Both Fed and State were accepted IRS.

    Hopefully, it helps.

Having the same issue with the Federal & AZ Efiling.  It would seem that Turbo Tax would have determined a solution to this as it seems to be a recurring issue!  Glad it isn’t 10/15/26 and encountering this as the taxes are due.

is there a question?  Also, as a work around, you can always paper file as a last resort.  Understand your taxes were due on April 15.

The IRS cares about their money, not so much their paperwork.

So if you filed for an extension that only deferred the submission of the paperwork without penatly. (and if you are due a refund, then the IRS really doesn’t care if you ever file! they would just assume keep that refund and the window to file and claim the refund is in 2029!)

Any money owed has been clicking away with interest since April 15.  The extension did not stop the penalty for not paying by April 15.

    Many do not underwstand that.

This is more of a statement. . . Given that this is not an isolated incident, it would seem that Turbo Tax should/would have developed a patch to resolve this issue.

from reading the comments, it appears its related to softwares installed on PCs that do not play nice with Turbo Tax (e.g. Norton, Little Snitch).  What work around / patch  would you propose?   These programs (norton, etc) have a purpose and wouldn’t it be THEIR softwares that would require the patch?
