If you have already paid your California annual LLC tax directly to the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) via Web Pay or another electronic method, you do not need to fill out Form 3588. During the final filing/e-file steps, when TurboTax asks how you want to pay your state balance, select that you have already paid or will pay by check (since the payment is already in the FTB's system, you simply won't mail the check the software generates).

I agree. We should collectively file against Turbo Tax. We paid a fee for an assistant on TT to help us file our 2024 taxes. She indicated that it was filed and we were all set. Well it turns out they never submitted it to the IRS! I have tried, tirelessly, to get a copy of our completed return but TT says they no longer have it. It has been very frustrating. I am already in the process of filing with the Better Business Bureau.

Wait until the amended return is completely settled with finances and paper. Save a copy of your amended return. Take a look at Second Amendment instructions. You can also review filing an amended return. A second amendment is just replacing the amended you filed.
Are you sure you need to file - the IRS does not really want to bother with an amended return if the amount is less than $25. The more returns they have to handle, the slower processing is and possibly more manpower.
Hold off for now, we have noticed amended returns may not be acting as expected and software is looking at it.

I am returning this thread in 2026 and still dealing this stupid issue. It was fine until there was a windows update few days ago and triggered the activation issue. How can this activation issue keep bothering the consumers for multiple years. Can we have a 'recall' /lemon for software product?

To enter your overtime in TurboTax Online, follow these steps:
1. Go to the Income section and start or edit your W-2.
2. Enter your W-2 exactly as it appears; if overtime is in Box 14, enter the description and amount, then select Overtime from the category dropdown on the following screen.
If the overtime is not on your W-2, continue through the screens until you reach Let's check for other situations. Check the box for Overtime and select Continue. Enter the total of your qualified overtime. TurboTax will calculate your deduction.
To qualify for the overtime deduction, you must meet these requirements:
You must be a non-exempt employee who is eligible for overtime under federal law (FLSA).
Your filing status cannot be Married Filing Separately.
Your modified adjusted gross income must be below $150,000 or less ($300,000 for joint filers) to be eligible for the maximum deduction, If your income is over $150,000 ($300,000 for joint filers), then the deduction begins to reduce by $100 for each $1,000 of MAGI over the applicable threshold amount. Once your MAGI hits $275,000 ($550,000 for joint filers), the overtime deduction is not available.
The pay must be for hours worked over 40 in a single workweek, and only the overtime premium (the extra "half" in time-and-a-half pay) is qualified for the deduction.

Only the underlayment was replaced. The tiles and plywood were not replaced. Does one think of this as a system like plumbing or electrical of the house thus is not capitalized under (I) Residential Rental Real Estate (27.5yrs) but under (F) Rental Carpet, etc (5yrs). I think the limit of $10k or 2% of house unadjusted value means you add all Repairs and Maintenance on Sch E and they cannot be more than the limit even if truly repairs and maintenance items. Correct?

In TurboTax, Schedule K-1 (1065) Box 11 Code O has a notation that the sale of QSB stock (Sec 1202 exclusion) is not provided for in the program. This means the user must manually enter this sale information on the appropriate form. In most cases, the sale is entered as a stock sale with special treatment. How that is done depends on the software they are using.
However, you can enter additional information for Box 11 using the K1P Addl Info form in TurboTax Business. The entry would be made under "Code I, L to R, and ZZ: Other Income" on Line 2 Other *. Your entry here will be included with the partner K-1 as Supplemental Information.

If you have a loss on rental properties or a pass through entity that qualifies as a trade or business, you will see the QBI Loss. If you have other profitable businesses (e.g., a side gig on Schedule C), the Schedule E loss is "netted" against those profits. This reduces your overall QBI income and, consequently, your 20% deduction for the current year. If your total QBI across all businesses is a net loss (less than zero), you cannot take a QBI deduction this year. Instead, the entire loss carries forward indefinitely to future tax years.

Same here with QCDs incorrectly entered on Form 5329. What I learned was that I made an incorrect interview response when asked if ALL the 2025 RMD was distributed. Because a portion were QCDs, I replied NO - mistake! It took two specialists and a couple hours to reach this conclusion. When the TT specialists were as lost as I was, how did I finally figure out what I had entered incorrectly? Thank you, ChatGPT! I returned to the interview, replied YES, and deleted Form 5329. The QCD issue is still confusing, but at least I was able to remove an inaccurate penalty for not taking the full RMD.
