Thanks, DianeW777. Found some notes that helped me resolve question just prior to your reply, which was also helpful. Still, to retrieve a calculation/worksheet from a prior year return, it is/would be cumbersome to have to “open” a new state to get to the worksheet level. Seems like the PDF print options for prior-year (already purchased/licensed) products, and thus returns, worksheets, etc., should directly allow for the gov/TT forms to be selected and printed (as they do with in-process returns). (Or perhaps I just didn’t see that option.) But, again, thanks.

Section 179 carryovers are entered separately from Schedule D capital loss carryovers. What form are you working on? In which version of TurboTax?

@kcandmc Unfortunately, the question in the interview is misleading for your situation... If your box 2a has a non-zero number in it..(not blank, nor marked as undetermined), and that number is somewhat lower than the box 1 number, due to an after-tax contribution amount that is noted in box 5...then edit that retirement form again, and when you get to the following page (below), answer it as-if the displayed edits were present (i.e. you needed to answer YES). Answering YES will use the box 2a $$ amount on your for 1040. Checking lines 5a and 5b on your form 1040, before and after entering that 1099-R, and the 5b amount should be lower than line 5a. (But if you answered No, and already entered some $$ in the "General" or "Simplified" calculation area ,you might need to delete your 1099-R first and re-enter it from scratch...) _____________________________________________________________

Have you tried to e-file without Form 8962? You could delete the 1095-A and try to file. Then, if it gets rejected, re-enter it making sure to add zeros or blank fields depending on what is in Column A.
Some fields can have zeros and some must be blank - do you have premiums listed for all 12 months or partial months? Column C will take a zero for any month there is an amount in column A. If column A is blank (no coverage for that month) you can leave column C blank for that line.
For any month you have an amount in column A, you have to have a positive amount in column B, and any amount (including $0) in column C.
If there is no amount (or $0) in column A, leave all columns blank for that line.
I just entered a 1095-A with 12 months of premiums with zeros in column C and TurboTax generated Form 8962.

This is a confusing question but let me break it down and then you can decide if your RMD is an annuity or not.
An RMD is:
A mandatory withdrawal from retirement accounts (Traditional IRA, 401(k), 403(b), etc.)
Required once you reach the IRS age threshold
Taxable as ordinary income
An annuity is:
A contract (usually with an insurance company but sometimes with government retired employees)
That pays out income on a schedule of periodic annuity payments
Sometimes held inside a retirement account, but not the same thing as the RMD itself
My suggestion is, if you aren't sure, answer no to the annuity question and yes only to “Was this an RMD?”

I am completely certain that I was using the Doc # on the back side of the license. It is in the right format and I entered the right characters. It appears on the NYS DMV page under "Issued October 30, 2017 - March 9, 2022" and TurboTax is not accepting it as a valid number. It is a bug.

I trade stocks for a living and have no withholdings. I intentionally did not make any estimated tax payments for tax year 2025. I did however make balance payments directly on the IRS website in February and March, on the following dates: Feb 9, Feb 24, Feb 25, Mar 3, Mar 4, Mar 6...total amounts of around $1.1M. I cannot find anywhere on TurboTax online to enter these payments. These were NOT estimated tax payments since they were made after the Q4 deadline of 1/15/2026. On the payment activity page of the IRS website, they are coded as type="Balance Payment" and Tax Year=2025. When I go to "Income Taxes Paid" under "Deductions & Credits", none of the options (screenshot below) appear correct either (I did not file an extension, I did not have a 2024 refund, etc.). Where do I input this information? Also, will turbotax automatically update my underpayment penalty to reflect the dates and amounts of these balance payments.

@DaveF1006 6. On the "Which year on Form 1099-R" screen say that this is a 2025 Form 1099-R. Hi, Dave, you said to do this, on line 6, looking back at my 2024 Return, I goofed up and put 2024 instead of 2025. Will this cause an audit this year 2026 when they receive the real 1099-R from payer with 2025 on it? Do I need to amend 2024 return, Form 4852 Line 6 to year 2025? Just want to be extra sure. Thanks!

Make sure you entered the number exactly as it is on your driver's license, including any spaces or special characters. If you continue to experience issues, you can try the following and then enter the number again: Go out of your program and go back in. Clear your cache and cookies. Try a different Web Browser. Also if your state does not require you to enter your driver's license number, you can skip it and continue with your return.

If you receive your annuity in monthly payments then all payments are considered RMDs.
In TurboTax, you can answer that the whole sum received is RMD and that your RMD is equal to the total received.
This way, TurboTax will know that you have satisfied all RMD requirements.
