I have 3 years of foreign tax credit carryovers and I have a foreign tax credit this year that I need to carryover. I am using TurboTax premiere online version that I use on my desktop. The form 1116 is in the software but when I go to print it out, it won't print. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps including deleting the form and inputting all of the data again. I spent over 5 hours on this yesterday. I called customer support. The first person hung up because she was clueless, the second person in product support insisted that I delete the program and reinstall it. Turbotax states that the form won't print out if I have foreign tax credits from dividends only. This makes NO SENSE. I need form 1116 to print out so that their is a documented history of my foreign tax credit carryovers for when I use them in the future. I explained this to the product support person and he insisted I had to delete the program and reinstall. So frustrating. Even more frustrating that turbotax support cannot help after waiting 1.5 hours on hold

What does "when I go off the app" mean? Did you prepare your return in the TurboTax mobile app on your phone or mobile device? And are you now trying to see your return in Online TurboTax through a browser? And are you using the same User ID and password? The mobile app and Online TurboTax should sync. If you filed with the mobile app, when using the app what does it show for the efile status--does it say accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or something else? If you just recently efiled, it may still say "pending." And when you log into Online TurboTax with a browser and go to the Tax Home, what does it say for the status of your return--does it show as accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or something else? If you just recently efiled, it may still say "pending." After filing did you get 2 emails--the first stating that the return had been transmitted, followed by a later email about whether the return was accepted or rejected?

Sorry for years I have been doing my kids and our Taxes . I guess I just flipped out certainly K1's finally came in today and can accomplish something prior to whatever plans they have for me. As a trader for the family my TT is rather complex and to be told manual entry is out of the question.

Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

First, if you efiled, be sure your efiled return was accepted. If using Online TurboTax, you can check at the Tax Home page. Does it show as accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or something else? If that showed your return was accepted for processing, you can track your Federal refund at the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool: https://www.irs.gov/refunds The IRS normally uses 3 stages: Return received and is being processed. Refund approved. Refund sent and an expected deposit date. If that tool shows your refund is still being processed, and if it's been longer than the usual 21 days, you can phone the IRS to see if they can tell you anything about the delay. Having transitioned from the World Bank to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), my primary duty station is Ukraine, where I conduct all professional activities. However, I frequently return to the United States, spending in excess of 70 days annually within the country. My role at WFP is that of a consultant, receiving monthly compensation and health insurance benefits, but without pension contributions or tax withholdings. My engagement with WFP commenced in 2024. I obtained green card holder status in January 2025. Consequently, I am seeking clarification regarding my obligations concerning U.S. income tax. Furthermore, I would appreciate guidance on whether self-employment tax is applicable to my situation. Your expertise and insights on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

See below A “New User” gave me the path to fix it on Feb 1 and I replied with a little more detail on Feb 7. It’s pretty shocking they haven’t had an update to fix this bug. Maybe it isn’t affecting all downloads and is a random error in only some downloads of the program? Hope you can resolve it by unchecking the SD box on the form under the tab for your return docs. Took me a couple of tries before it “took” without reverting back to SD. (It was a couple thousand $ difference in what I would owe vs Itemizing.)

In 2024, we did a 1031 exchange that we filled in as a like-kind exchange in turbotax. The house that we sold was a rental so we also filled in schedule E for the rental(in turbotax Rent and Royalties section). On 2024 taxes, Turbotax shows that I have a carryover loss of $8000+ on this house from my rental. Where in 2025 turbotax do we report this? If I check into 2025 Turbotax Rent and Royalties section, I see this house present and shows carryover losses. But on next screen it asks "was this property rented in 2025?". When I answer No, TT suggests that I should delete the house from this section. Then where should the passive carryover loss be reported? Thanks!

@RogerD1 [Edited to restore the token number, part of which the forum software decided was a phone number and replaced. So I have put spaces in between the digits of that part before the dash. Let me know if it isn't clear.] Thank you so much for this. I have generated the file (was quicker than I expected). The token number is 1 3 4 7 6 6 2 1 7 5 -61309110. Note that I have tried a few different things to make TT do the right thing, most recently deleting the NM and MA state returns (leaving only federal and CA non-resident), then re-doing the NM one next (instead of MA). In theory that made it more like in previous years when there was no third state and it apportioned income/credited tax on the PIT-B properly. Unfortunately that experiment did not change anything. So I re-created MA as well, and the file again has all three states. Section III of the Personal Worksheet (under federal paperwork) correctly shows the data I provided to TT for her state of residency on 12/31/2025 (MA). I also told it that she was a part-year resident there, along with the date of the change, and specified NM as the previous state of residency. This *ought* to make it treat her as a tax resident in NM for the first part of the year, but it seems like instead it considered her a non-resident, based on originally defaulting to 0 for NM income in the manual apportionment step of the questionnaire. It apparently didn't recognize that as being from CA. I'm not sure how it could, really, given that none of the income statements have anything to indicate *when* that income was received, only who paid it in what state, and maybe that's not enough for TT to figure out what to do with it. I did not see anything in either the questionnaire steps or the forms I looked at directly that allows me to associate income with dates. The basic concepts of state residency and income apportionment are straightforward enough, but I realize that finding the cause and solution may be complicated. I *really* appreciate your help. If it turns out that a conversation is better, please let me know how to securely give you my phone number, or how to reach you. Thanks again.

I have a similar problem that the calculation is completely wrong. The instructions on Form 1116 say to exclude exempt income. I enter exempt income as a negative amount on Schedule 1 (Form 1040) line 8z. Under the US-UK Treaty Article 17(1)(a) and Article 17(3) pension and social security is only taxed in the country of residence (i.e. exempt from US tax). It looks like the program is ignoring those negative adjustments.
