When I enter in certain expenses under rental property info, I click "Continue" and the summary page still shows "Not Started" for those categories. If I click back into the category, the number is still there. Is this expected behavior?   I'm wondering if I'm not allowed to enter expenses if I've already exceeded my rental income amount (since I was reading that my property may not be eligible for rental loss since I lived in it for a portion of the year). But that seemed unlikely since I should still be able to record everything, even if the loss isn't recognized as such.   Here is one example where I entered in the insurance premium amount but it was not listed on the summary page:   I have tried clearing my cache and also opened this page in both Chrome and Firefox to see if it was a browser issue but it persisted in both.

My wife is a foreign national receving income in the USA and paying taxes on her income. Previously I was advised to enter her tax information into TT using substitute 1099-R to create a substitute form 4852 but this option does not appear in 2026 Home and Business Mac,   at least a far as I can see. What should I do?

I got to the Federal Review and TT reported that there was a problem and offered to fix it. The fix took me to a page in the Smart Check section titled "Check This Entry". The body says:   Education Tuition and Fees Summary: Please check the Launch optimizer checkbox so we can be sure you get the education deduction or credit that saves you the most.   [ ] Launch optimizer   But when I click the checkbox, it immediately unchecks itself again. TBH it feels like an April Fools joke but it's already April 5

Hi,   We are a married couple filing our federal taxes together. We lived in NJ and NC seperately in 2025 and want to know how to split the income between states in turbotax.   I have entered all the info and federal review looks good but when I started filing states, AGI from federal is used. Previously(we had similar situation of nonresident in the past) a percentage of income is attributed to state and then taxable income for that state was calculated as percentage * AGI , but I am not seeing that for 2025.   Is there some page where I can enter this information? When I file NC it does ask to split the W-2 income and 1099 income but doesn’t do the ratio while finally calculating the taxes. I am being charged tax on our whole income instead of for NC specific.

AnnetteB6, I've just gone through your suggested steps and resubmitted my return yet again. Form 8889-T doesn't look any different, so I'm not expecting the return to be accepted, but I'll let you know in the morning (4/6). Thanks for the help, but I'm not optimistic!

I had the same problem and solved it by quiting and restarting Turbotax.

After about three hours on the phone with Intuit today and getting nowhere in resolving the rejection issue (submittal has been rejected 6 times now), it occurred to me that my HR department has an incorrect address on my W2 AND on my HSA forms and perhaps this discrepancy is what's causing the rejection at the IRS -- since the address on my 1040 does not match the address on my W2 (HR literally got my house number wrong but, strangely, I still received them in the mail!). I realize this is pretty far out there in left field, but does anyone else have any sort of similar mismatch between their W2 and their 1040? I'm suspecting that this might be the cause of the rejection, so plan to request that HR provide amended W2 and HSA forms so that they go to the IRS correctly. Just another guess...

Last year (TY 2025), I sold close to $500,000 in stock, nearly all of which was long term capital gains reported to the IRS.    This shows up correctly in TT for my Federal Return, but doesn't seem to register at all when I click in to State Taxes to work on my WA return. TT also completes its "State Review" with no errors, and says I am due a refund of $0 (and don't need to file a state return).   What is going on? How do I get TT to recognize that I owe WA cap gains excise tax on my cap gains?   Thanks!

Thanks for your response. When I click to the right of IRA 401(k) Pension Plan Withdrawal (1099-R) (Learn More) the a window opens containing information but no mension of substitute 1099-R. If I click to the far right (Update) I see a summary of the information I have entered for that section and an option to add a 1099-R but not a substitute 1099-R. If I click the 1099-R link I am able to add the information received in the 1042-S and the information is saved as a 1099-R. At no time is there a link to file a substitute 1099-R. In prior years this option was available but not in the 2026 version, at least as far as I can see. I am running Home and Business Desktop. Any other suggestions?

I'm trying to file for 401k over contribution excess amount correction, I have already withdrawn the excess amount but didn't receive a corrective 1099-R. My excess contribution was split between traditional 401(k) and Roth 401(k). For traditional 401k excess amount, I reported the number in the "Miscellaneous inform, 1099-A, 1099-C" section. For Roth 401k excess amount, there is a "Roth 401(k) taxable amount" (interest) component and a "Roth 401(k) non-taxable amount" component. For the "Roth 401(k) taxable amount" component, I reported the number in the "Miscellaneous inform, 1099-A, 1099-C" section. I'm guessing I don't have to report anything for the "Roth 401(k) non-taxable amount" component since it should already be reflected on W2. Can someone help me confirm if this is the correct way to do it?
