After manually filled in all the required information in the 1099R, it came up the RMD Q.  We did the RMD first (in March,2025) and then IRA to Roth IRA conversion (Dec, 2025).  Why did TurboTax treat the amount as normal contribution, not the conversion?  There is NO any Qs ask for the purpose of the contribution,  nor the conversion Q.  Can you please help how to trigger the Conversion?  Thanks!

I have about 12 K1s from real estate investments. The rental activity nets to a loss. Turbo tax is taking that against my other income. They are passive losses so that is incorrect. Turbo tax no longer has the question do I participate materially so that it would know to limit my losses to my income and carryover the rest. They are not flowing through to a schedule E and therefore not to a form 8582.  I have put all the income and losses for each investment into line 2. I even had a Turbotax Expert on the phone for an hour and they can't figure it out.

I completed my draft 1040 but wanted more time to double check everything, so I didn't file by 4/15/26. I did however make a "balance payment" for the draft amount of what I owe on time directly to the IRS online. Let's say that amount is $1000.   When I realized I wanted to take more time to go over everything and not file on/by 4/15/2026, I also made a $1 extension payment on 4/15/26 to initiate an automatic extension so I wouldn't have to file the extension form separately just to be safe.   Let's say the original computation of how much I owe will remain the same, except for the extension payment, so I potentially overpaid by $1.   Moving forward, what is the correct way to modify my 1040? Do I enter $1 for an extension payment, and then my total owed federal tax on the 1040 should appear as $999?   Any other foreseeable issues I should address? Thanks

Thank you for your reply.   A TT professional answered my question and I located the information I needed in the Mutual Fund and UIT Supplemental Information pages provided by the my investment firm.  I had to aggregate the various percentages for my filing state and answer the question if it was greater than 50% or less than 50%.  This was a question I had not seen before.

Glitch is still there.  I was able to reproduce a faulty choice of standard deduction by going back through the deductions section again.  It automatically chooses Standard deduction, even though Itemized was a little better, and checks a box in Sect. VI of Info Wks to use standard deduction even if itemized is better.  If I "change my deduction" I can get it to go back to itemized, even though the page still claims it's using Standard deduction.  But if I go to the actual 1040 form, the itemized amount is in line 12e.   I was able to get my taxes filed with the right deduction (i.e., without it flipping back.)  I think it's probably related to telling Turbo Tax to apply my refund to 2026 taxes (so the refund amount is zero for both standard deduction or itemized.)  But I saved $819 by filing with itemized because  the amount of refund was higher.  If you blindly followed the Turbo Tax recommendation, you wouldn't know you'd have been better off with itemized.

YES! They will still take your direct deposit information and withdraw the funds from your account, even if it was rejected. I’ve listened to the majority of the comments in here responses from TurboTax saying that they would not take my deposit information if my original return was rejected. That was not true. When my original return was rejected, I adjusted and fix the issue and resubmitted it, and it was accepted, but I was not asked for deposit information. So I made a direct payment through the IRS website on 4/15/26. Two days later the direct withdrawal came out for the new amount that was submitted on my tax return. Turbo Tax needs to get their sh*t together because I called them and asked the question and they told me they would not take it out. I want a refund from TurboTax for the misinformation and the inconvenience this is causing me.

I posted a note yesterday (with a token #) ... it seems to have disappeared.  Perhaps this is a better thread - it has 2026 issues (for TY2025) on it. Appears this 5805 situation is a recurring issue, going on at least 3 years now. For us, this is 1st time having to file 5805, so no personal experience with it.  Our situation: 2025 was 1st year we were required to pay quarterly.  Didn't realize it, didn't pay, so necessity to file 5805 this year - and pay penalty - is correct.  (That's on me, my bad.) But given that, some number on the form are questionable, unexplained, and I cannot reproduce them manually. Specifically: Part II. I can reproduce manually values for Lines 1-6, same as TT.  From there, however, TT is blank all the way to Line 13, where a penalty number appears out of nowhere, unsubstantiated. My manual calcs also result in a (different) number for Line 13 ... but I cannot get there without the numbers for Lines 7-12 - all blank in TT, so I have no way to even try trace its steps.   Part III. All number appear here, so at least I can follow along, pretend to keep up, sort of. Worksheet II. For part I (Figure Your Underpayment), there are number to follow. For Part II (Figure Your Penalty), all numbers are blank ... except for Line 14, where magically reappears the same unsubstantiated, unreproducible number that showed up earlier. I would like to see TT provide *some* substantiation/justification for the penalty calculation for both parts. Token ID is 1[phone number removed]4301.

I had the same problem on my new M5 MBP. Premier launched seemingly okay, but wouldn't import last year's return and, after inputting personal info from scratch, wouldn't save the file. None of their help files were of any help. On the verge of panic, I found this posting and it was exactly what was needed to resolve the issue. Thank you!!

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return. For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/ Tax Products Group Contact Information - https://help.sbtpg.com/hc/en-us/articles/230084587-Contact-Information Call 1-877-908-7228 Or email - TPG-CSsupport@greendotcorp.com

I called Tax Audit.  They cancelled my TY2025 membership and let me buy a full statute of limitations membership for $40 which is less than I paid Tubotax for a one year membership.     You may only have 30 days from the purchase date to cancel.     As I noted this is a Turbotax scam.
