Thanks to Trump and Republicans, IRS has no personnel to handle these situations promptly. Your refund is in limbo indefinitely. @charrelleervin1

I'm using TT Desktop on a Mac. I'm trying to pay the filling fee with a credit card and keep getting the following error: "We are sorry, we are having trouble authorizing your credit card. Please verify your billing address, card number and CVV and try again." We have tried 4 different credit cards to no avail. I've been on the phone with support for over an hour and they have no idea. And yes, the mailing and billing address match. HEY TURBO TAX - how the heck are we supposed to pay our taxes? Anyone else run into the same issue?

Sorry There is a lot of confusion about this. For the Desktop Deluxe and above it's a free download of one state PROGRAM, not a free state efile. You can prepare unlimited federal and unlimited state returns. Some people need to file in more than one state so they have to buy another state program. You can print and mail the state for free or each state return including the first one is $20 early or 25 to efile. Except New York is free to efile state. Check the box or online description. It should say Federal + Efile + State. Not state efile.

That option doesn't exist for an amended return. Upon getting to the filing options, I have a choice to review both state and federal. State was accepted so I'm just trying to re-file federal and select e-file. The following screens say its validated my phone number and then ask to add identity protection PINs (we both have ours entered here). After that it asks for ID. We're both using our driver's license. From there, it does a final review and then submits. At no point does it allow me to enter AGI from last year.

Although I completed all the steps for Form 1116, it does not appear in the final tax document, and I did not receive any credit for the taxes I paid.

Five hours is not wasted. You know exactly what to do via short term memory. It should not take very long to re-enter your tax return to that point. @landay

In the desktop product, there has always been a $25 fee to efile the state return (actually I think it used to be $20 several years ago.) I have to pay it myself. There is no state efile fee for NY state, and there is no fee to file the state return by mail. The included state in a desktop product refers to the state program download, but the state efile fee is extra. . .

I used a desktop TT Premier product which included both Federal and state free e-filing. At one point, the software itself reassured me that I was set up for both "free" services. Yet, in the end, I was disallowed from e-filing unless I paid an additional $25 and tax to e file the state! I spent an entire day trying to get assistance from TT. The specialists were confused. Some reported that a "free state e file was never included." When I insisted that they research this, they admitted that my product did include the e file. In the end, even the so-called top tier people had no solution, albeit admitting that I was correct. During my evening break, I received 3 efforts to supply a discount code, BUT this applied only to the online product-- another evidence of TT well meaning confusion. Apparently, the same problem has persisted at least since 2021. It concerns me that other TT clients have simply given up, being convinced that they have to pay the additional fee. Should you experience the same issue, please be ready to document the specific advertising on the product you purchased. Hopefully, my day-long adherence to solving this issue will set some precedence.

Max allowed is $9,257 by the turbo tax calculation, but the refund stops changing at $4,950.
So apparently $4,307 gets taxed now and taxed again when distributed later for retirement?

What are you trying to pay where you are seeing a payment plan option? Do you owe a Federal tax due? If so, and you don't want a payment plan, then you are likely on the wrong option screen.

Thanks -- but, if that fee was 50% of the rental income (an amount that would get us to the same desired outcome - we each pay tax on half of the income), wouldn't that invite IRS scrutiny as above and beyond what would typically be reasonable for management fees?

The amount he received is a "distribution" the distribution code is "4" it is taxable income. @DaxPagan

I started my 2025 return. After working on it for several hours I was surprised 2024 information was not in there (prior years it had the prior years information). I used the same Intuit account. When I asked the AI it told me to use Tax tools->Tools and load the prior year's return. It OVERWROTE all my 2025 data with NO warning and ability to cancel. This is horrible. I can find no function to undo or go back. 5 hours wasted. This is horrible. Why use this piece of junK

Just filed federal and state together, and was forced to pay $64 with no notice that this was coming! I've always paid $25 to file state (free for Federal). This year (2026), I finished filing on 4/5/26 with the online version, and TT said I'd have to pay $64 to file both together. What!? Where did that come from? Did State go up from $25 to $64? That's highway robbery, and there was no warning until late at night when I'm hurrying to finish. I think TT should be more transparent up front that when you finish that they will charge you this outrageous amount! Not happy with Turbotax!
