Turbo Tax is not calculating the Senior "Bonus" deduction correctly on my tax return. Perhaps it is because of the instructions on LIne 35 (PART V) which say to subtract $600 from line 34. This is not correct because the return in question has MFJ with both taxpayer ove 65. This means that they are entitle to a $12000 enhance deduction. With line 34 indicating the phase out amount, line 35 should subtract this amount from $12000 dollars to arrive at the correct enhanced deduction. It does not do this. You do not lose, or have phased-out, 6% of the entire amount (that is over $150000) and then multiply it by two (2) to arrive at the enhgcnce deduction. The $6000 bonus deduction is a "per person" deduction which either needs to take 1/2 of the amount over $150000 and then multiply by 6% (Line 33), or take 1/2 of the line 34 amount and then subtract it from $6000. Then multiply this result by two (2).

Hello, I filed my return for the both fed and state. The federal return was accepted, but the state return (Oregon) was rejected. When I open my return, the initial "Continue Your 2025 Tax Return" screen, it shows that I have a return rejected. However, when I open that return, I get no information about why. It goes directly to the E-filing page. I have tried looking around in the return, but nothing gives me any clue as to why the return was rejected. I'm going to refile the return, and see what happens, but if anyone could help me figure out why it was rejected I would appreciate it. Thank you, Jim

I received a notice in the mail yesterday regarding two 401k withdrawals I made in 2023. I had all taxes withheld for both of the withdrawals. IRS said I did not claim those correctly. I thought I did everything correctly using the TurboTax wizard, and I had taxes withheld both times I withdraw. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I'd really appreciate some help! I don't know what to do, and I'm panicking. Please let me know what you think, or how I should proceed. Thank you so so much!!!

Improvement costs on a personal residence, not used as rental or in a business, are not reported on a tax return. You can add the improvement costs to the basis of the home when it is sold.

It is the Deluxe Online Edition. I've mentioned this earlier in the conversation thread. I also spoke to someone on the phone and they saw the trouble that we have been dealing with. We thought we were getting somewhere that time and then he could see for himself that it was not working. I can't send a screenshot at the moment, as I am currently feeling very ill and having to rest for a while. I suffer from narcolepsy and sleep apnea and both conditions have been taking a toll on me of late, and I need to lie down before I black out. I will try to see if I can take a screen shot with my camera later on today. I don't have a cell phone to take a photo, and will have to wait for my brother to get home. My apologies that I cannot do this at the moment, but I really am not well at this time.

(T1198)” if we answer yes, but we did not receive a T1198 how do we fill out the “statement of qualifying retroactive lump sum payment” section?

I ask because , if you have transitioned to a Resident for Tax purposes then the issuer should have used a form other than 1042-S. If you are still NRA, then you report the 1042-S contents , box by box on form 1040-NR ( not supported by TurboTax , use SprinTax or similar service or a tax professional). If you are a Resident for Tax purposes then you have to map the numbers from 1042-S to equivalent boxes on a W-2 or 1099- NEC/MISC/INT/DIV etc. Please tell more about your own immigration/Tax status and the type of income shown on 1042-S. And surely one of us can help you file your return.

You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
