Two problems when I use the 1099 ssa form, one is it defaults to spouse and the  client doesn't have one and  second there is no employer number on the Form SSA-1099 social security benefits.  This is ssa-1099-1099sm and there is no form.
I seems that an important point is missed. I pay TT for exactly this type of assistance. Please ask TT to program this so we don’t have to grab pen and paper to do these calculations. Thank you.

Try changing the "Property Type" from "Vacation/Short-Term" to "Single Family Residence" just to see if the loss disappears. If it does, you've found the solution.   If you change the software to "Single Family Residence," it will simply put a "1" on that line instead of a "3." Given that your property is a single-family home that you happen to rent out short-term, Code 1 is not "wrong"—it’s just less specific, but it does comply with the IRC §280A residency test.

Hi ThomasM125 - I have done that a couple of times - totboxtax premier 2024 does not give me the option of adding actual cost of repair, instead forces the calculation to 10% of AGI which is incorrect. I can manually override the values, but then I have to paper file my return - not an ideal situation. Is there anything else you can suggest please?  it is a FEMA qualified DR event!!  Thank you so much for helping!!

Even if you are using the amount from your IRS account, there are still some situations that could affect what AGI number you use.  Some of those situations are:   If you amended your return you must use the AGI from your original 2024 tax return. Make sure that you entered the number was entered correctly without rounding.  If you filed your return after November 10, 2025 enter $0 as your prior-year AGI. For more ideas that could help you find out what your AGI is, refer to the following TurboTax help article:   How do I find last year's AGI?

@Sue2843  I'm not sure I agree with skelly11 's advice to include the RMD from your husband's account (which is not really "required" until 4/1) as "RMD due by Dec. 31, 2025."  That may work out if you don't have any other RMDs or your husband had other accounts and took RMDs from them, too.  But your husband's RMD was not due by 12/31, because it is only due/required by April 1.  TT uses what you input in this "RMD due by Dec. 31, 2025" field to figure out whether your husband owes an "excess accumulation" (i.e., insufficient withdrawal) penalty considering all of his accounts with RMDs.  For 2025, since he was not required to withdraw from this or any other RMD-account, the correct figure to enter in response to "RMD due by Dec. 31, 2025" for this account, and any other RMD-account of his is $0.   Open Form 5329(-S or -T), Part IX.  He should have $0 "RMD for accounts" and, most importantly, $0 "Undistributed RMD" for 2025.  And there should be no penalty tax from this (which would show up on Schedule 2 and then carry over to Form 1040, Line 23 if it's being assessed).

You won't be able to take the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit without a QMID. Unfortunately, the IRS mandates the QMID for 2025. TurboTax is programmed to block the credit without that four-digit code to prevent a rejected return.    If the item has a QMID and you just do not have it, you can check the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement provided with your items if the contractor gave them to you or look it up on the manufacturer's website.   Per IRS 5695 Instructions: "Beginning January 1, 2025, if you are claiming the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit for specified property placed into service in 2025, you must include the four-character alphanumeric unique qualified manufacturer identification number (QMID) for each item."

Legislation change: Signed into law on July 4th, 2025, the OBBBA initiated 529 plan rule changes that include an expansion in the definition of qualified expenses. Many credential programs (such as a CPA exam) are now qualified.   Question: Where and how should the 1099-Q 529 distributions, as well as the new qualified exam expenses (no 1098-T) be entered into the TurboTax Windows desktop program? So that the program can figure out any tax liability.   NOTE: I am aware that some tax experts may suggest to not enter the 1099-Q if it fully covers the qualified expenses - just keep good records. But that is not always an option such as this example: I withdraw $3,000 from the 529 to cover $2,500 exam fee. So I have a $500 excess distribution with ~$200 earnings as taxable income + the 10% penalty. In this scenario we need TurboTax program's help to properly calculate the taxable liability. Which means I should enter the 1099-Q data as well as the exam fees and expenses somewhere. Where and how, what is the workaround?   Then need to figure this out at the State level as well if the State such as CA does not conform. The "expanded use of 529" in the state section does not currently seem to accommodate this. Thank you. TurboTax Deluxe Windows desktop

After looking into your bullet #3 about things to be aware of... I have the desktop version.  How would I know "If the deduction takes your income lower on the FPL, then it creates a circular calculation"?  The publication your referred me to is 68 pages long, I cant understand it.  We have no dependents and lived in the USA all year.  I just assume Turbo Tax figures the premium tax credit properly.  We owe a good portion of the PTC we received back, I inherited some money that boosted my income:(

The errors in Turbo Tax are more general than you indicated.  In Home and Business edition the errors are more overt than form integration.  Turbo Tax computation of the tax based on line 13 annualized income on form AI is simply wrong.  You can check against the tax tables for the correct result.  Yet there is no way I could find to fix the errors since Turbo Tax would not allow me to over-ride their values in the form.  As it stands, I cannot use TurboTax to file my return.  Anyone with annualized income should not be surprised if they hear from the IRS down the road.
