Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges! Yes, it's okay but not wise for your husband to delay paying the RMD until beyond Dec. 31 and pay twice the following year. You could end up paying extra tax in a higher tax bracket, more tax on social security, etc. I had a RMD issue but corrected it by going into the forms, understanding what was going on, and changing it there, then going back thru the TurboTax questions to see if any other issues popped up.

Form 8833 is not required for exemptions on Social Security benefits but without the form explaining, it does look taxable. You should fill in the 8833, include your proof of foreign residency to counter the US address. Reference your specific treaty and article in your simple, easy to read letter replying to the IRS.   In the future, you could either:  mail your return with the 8833 attached or use professional software Perhaps TurboTax will incorporate it if they understand the need. You can file an accuracy claim. How do I submit a claim under the TurboTax 100% Accurate Calculation Guarantee or 100% Accurate, Expert Approved Guarantee?
That would be appropriate.
I was told to submit a Form 5329 but I can't find it in Turbo Tax.
The AI says to do it with the Federal section, but I need to do it for state
We in the Community cannot see your private tax data nor the screen you are on. So help us help you.   What state are you talking about?

Thanks Marilyn. I figured out why the Rental Activity was being labeled Nonpassive for Sch E. I marked the activity as Land instead of Commercial Rental Property. When I changed the activity coding, Turbotax made it passive and it flowed to the 8582 as passive income and offset passive losses against it, which is what I was expecting. I'm all set.

The only way to get around your issue, if you so chose would be file your federal return as is.  Save it.  Then call it up and save it as MASS filing, and change the sales to business inventory sales vs. securities.  I do not condone it, Mass instructions do NOT support this.  You can then e-file the state return as a business Schedule C income/losses and know you have 2 different files, one just for state.

I planned to sell a house in 2025, so I started an amendment on my 2024 return, just to see what it would look like. When I started my 2025 return, it imported this draft amendment. (Why??)   Now the 2025 return thinks I sold a house in 2024. I've cancelled the amendment in 2024; it didn't change anything in 2025.   * How do I have 2025 re-import the 2024 data? *
I have filed taxes for years and never had a problem with this. Can I not file taxes?

Turbo Tax will not attach a federal form 6251 (pertaining to Alt. Min. Tax) to my MN state return, which seems to require it in order to be e-filed.  TTax has the form filled out in the federal return, but with the conclusion that we do not subject to any AMT.

@markmatty    There are hundreds or even thousands of bank/CU institutions that do not provide a downloadable 1099-INT form for their customers.   Look lower on the page where you would normally make the selection...to "Enter Another Way"...or "Type it in myself".   Possibly both selections on subsequent pages.  Don't try  to upload a picture or PDF of that form...too many computer AI mistakes cause complications....Just Type it in...yourself.
