If he is a 100% remote worker living in Maryland (MD) for a District of Columbia based employer, he is not required to file a DC non-resident return, provided no work was physically performed in DC.    Maryland and the District of Columbia have tax reciprocity. Because of this, taxes should only be paid to Maryland. He would have to file a District of Columbia nonresident tax return to get a full refund of his DC withholdings.   If he files a nonresident tax return for the District of Columbia, he should prepare it first in TurboTax (before preparing his Maryland state tax return).   He can submit a Form D-4A Certificate of Nonresidence in the District of Columbia to his employer to stop future District of Columbia tax withholding.      See these links for additional information:   Multiple States—Figuring What's Owed When You Live and Work in More Than One State   How do I file a nonresident state return?   If you have additional information or questions regarding this, please return to Community and we would be glad to help.
I have a permanent mailing address with my sister in Minnesota but travel most of the year. Can I use Minnesota as my state of residence?

Dear Ms Rene , thank you very much your prompt response. I really appreciate your time and effort.  I figured out double entry for missed RMD and followed your instructions. My entries in form5329 came out correct. It matches the form5329 that i mailed to IRS in mid Feb. i would  really appreciate if you can review my step by step entries in the following google doc.   https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X0JwJFxAhsKe5kA6YN6vj6c0FPc3MhUtWRiIWU7kFzk/edit   thank you for your help.

No. The Federal Section 179 expensing rules generally do not apply to rental property because it is considered a passive investment, rather than an active trade or business.   The $25,000 deduction cap generally applies to equipment used in an active trade or business, not residential rental property.   If you claim Section 179 deductions on your Federal return for your rental property, you will usually be required to make an adjustment to add back that amount on your DC return.   As an alternative, for items that do not qualify for Section 179, rental property owners can consider the De Minimis Safe Harbor, which allows them to immediately deduct, or expense, items that cost $2,500 or less per item. You may also qualify for the Safe Harbor for Small Taxpayers for larger building repairs or improvements.   Learn more by reading this IRS article A de minimis safe harbor election.

The instructions for Form 3520 state expressly to send it to this PO Box - don't use another address: Send Form 3520 to the following address.   Internal Revenue Service Center P.O. Box 409101 Ogden, UT 84409 To ask them directly, you can start by calling the IRS international tax issues line: 267-941-1000   A duplicate filing of Form 3520 may accrue an automatic civil penalty onto your account, which could drastically slow down processing of the original return. This might be a question for an attorney.    If you have the certified mail receipt, you should be able to furnish this as proof of timely filing if the form is truly lost. Make a copy of your missing mail request, and keep that with your records as well. I thought everything I sent last year by certified USPS was lost or even tossed away; I didn't get a single confirmation of delivery, so I wouldn't be so quick to assume it's truly lost in the mail. All the certified mail I sent was delivered, eventually.  Your mileage may vary.    To see if the form has posted to your account, you can also send Form 4506-T Request for Transcript and put "3520" on Line 6.

Because i have some stocks loaned out already in 2026 that are paying me, i had clicked not only "You got it in 2025" but also  "You intend to get it in 2026. See examples".  Clicking  this box linked it to a schedule C. When i unclicked  this box, it worked without going into the schedule C route. I guess it interpreted that "You intend to get it..." as a business.

For seniors, TurboTax is automatically including the $6,000 senior deduction when filing Arizona state income tax. However, this seems to still be under consideration with the state legislature and not finalized.  The Arizona Dept. of Revenue website currently states as follows: "Who can file now without expecting an amended return?  Taxpayers are unlikely to need to file an amended return if they: Take the standard deduction, and  Do not plan to claim the deductions related to:  Overtime compensation Tipped Income Qualified Vehicle Loan Interest The $6,000 senior deduction  Taxpayers who meet this criteria can file now without expecting delays or an amended return related to conformity. About two-thirds of taxpayers fall into this group, which means they are not affected while conformity is resolved. "   So it appears that taking the $6,000 senior deduction (or other deductions as listed above) may require filing an amended return.  If I e-file my Arizona return now, will I have to pay an additional TurboTax e-file fee if I have to file an amended return in the future?  Also, why is TurboTax including this deduction when it has not been finalized?

Remove any space in your name, if there’s one, because TurboTax reads spaces like extra characters and that can cause errors. Make sure your name matches exactly with a Social Security Record.    To fix that, go to the "My Info" section to edit names, get rid of any special characters, make sure to use only letters, and verify Social Security numbers match.    If the issue persists, it might be a good idea to update the program by clearing your browser's cookies and cache: How do I delete cookies  How to clear your cache    If the issue continues, you may consider to file by mail.

I had a 2555T form last year, but not for this year's taxes.   When I try to delete this tax form for this year, it does not exist in the tax forms.  However, I need to update this form when I go to review the federal taxes, so it must exist somewhere.   How can I delete this form? Thank you
